Father Admits He Was Intending To Kill His Son During High Speed Crash

On August 21, 2016, Nathan Weitzel, 31, left his 2 and a half year old son unbuckled in a vehicle before it crashed into several cars while he was going 75 miles per hour. Weitzel has been driving a Acura Sedan when it crashed in the 6000 block of Eudora Way. Weitzel put his on seat belt on but told deputies he didn’t put his son in a child seat and did not restrain him on purpose. Investigators say Weitzel has been using cocaine prior to to the incident and wanted to kill his son because quote, “being a father was a big responsibility” and, “he did not think he was man enough to raise a child.” Weitzel’s 2 and a half year old son at the time, has since then recovered from all his injuries. Nathan has pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree attempted murder after deliberation, a class 2 felony. He will be sentenced April 3rd.
